CDI is identified as a “model site” for complete, well-organized and accurate mammography testing and documentation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are accredited by the American College of Radiology and the FDA.

A mammogram detects tiny irregularities in the breast that are too small to be felt and allows for early treatment. It is also used to investigate a lump or other abnormality found on physical examination by the patient or physician.

Digital Mammography
Digital mammography is similar to traditional film screen mammography. However, instead of using film to record the image, a digital mammogram uses a special detector to convert X-ray energy into a digital image that is immediately available to the radiologist for diagnosis.

The radiologist can view and manipulate the images on high-resolution computer monitors that enhance visualization of the structures within the breast tissue. They can also adjust brightness and contrast, and zoom in on specific areas to help detect small calcifications, masses and other changes that may be signs of early cancer.

Digital mammography offers many advantages for patients:

  • Minimal waiting for film developing can significantly reduce the time patients spend in the center
  • Reduced need for repeat exams due to under or over exposure of film
  • Digital images are easily stored and transferred electronically, eliminating the dependency on a single set of films

Preparing for Your Exam
Do not wear deodorant, talcum powder or lotion under your arms or around the breast area the day of the exam. These can appear on the image as artifacts.

If your breasts are usually tender before your period, try to schedule an appointment one week following your period. This will allow for better compression of the breasts.

If possible, obtain prior mammograms and make them available to the radiologist at the time of your appointment. Since normal breast appearance varies from woman to woman and the change in appearance caused by breast cancer may be very subtle, having the prior examinations available is very important for the radiologist interpreting your mammogram.

Early detection is critical. CDI is proud to offer the latest technology in the fight against breast cancer.
